Summer is almost over. Fall fashion has taken over the runways. For kids and teenagers, hoodies are back in fashion. Hoodies may be jackets, sweaters or ever shirts that come with a hood – hence the street term “hoodies”. Hoodies however are too casual and not that practical for the cold weather. The practical hoodies to look for especially if you live in a city where there are harsh winters are fleece hoodies.

Fleece hoodies keep you warm in the winter. Fleece hoodies also keeps your ears and neck warm. You no longer need to wear a winter cap or ear muffs. Fleece is thick and can keep you comfortable all day. Fleece jackets are the preferred choice for people who tend to work outdoors during the cold season. Fleece lined jackets are also worn by people who work in cold indoor environments such as industrial meat freezers etc…

newborn clothing

After having twin boys I am now considered by my friends as the expert on babies. The most frequent questions my pregnant friends ask me are what to buy for their baby, what to get for their nursery etc…I always tell them that the first thing they should buy is newborn clothing. Parents will need newborn clothing to be ready as soon as their baby is discharged from the hospital. In some hospitals, you will need to have your newborn’s clothing ready as soon if you decide to room in with your baby.

Most expectant friends ask me for a list of the most essential newborn clothing that they will need to buy. The essentials should include body suits, socks, mittens and caps. The body suit, socks and cap should keep your baby warm. I would also recommend onesies that open from the front. Most newborns have enlarged heads so it is easier to change your baby’s clothes if the buttons are on the front.

Babies grow fastest during the first year of life. Thus, it is not advisable to buy them too expensive clothes that they will quickly outgrow after just a few uses. Save money by buying discount baby apparel instead. There are many available that are of good quality and yet, are not hard on the pocket.

It is hard to raise a kid in these hard times. Parents should be wise enough to save as much as they can for their children’s future. Remember that a few cents or dollar saved will all add up eventually. Choose to shop wisely for children’s clothes while they are still babies so you can better prepare for other expenses as they grow up.

The baby will usually have a pair of godparents. The true godparent of the child is the one in the same sex as the child being baptized. A couple will usually stand as godparents but if the baby is a girl, the lady witness is considered the genuine godparent. The godparent is supposed to take care of the child if something unfortunate happens to the parents of the child. There have been cases where the child grew up very much attached to the godparent in the true sense of the word.

During a baptismal ceremony, relatives and guests will be decked out in formal clothing. The focus of the ceremony will be the baby dressed in formal christening clothes. For a girl it will usually be a white lacy dress with intricate embroidery on the gown as well as in the matching bonnet. The baby will also be wearing a formal white baby shoes and socks. In some families, the christening outfit is kept carefully in storage to be used by the next baby to be baptized.

Personalizing baby’s clothes can be as simple as stamping some cute prints on plain white cotton shirts. You can also purchase patches and stick them with glue or use simple running stitch to attach the patch to a plain shirt or pair of pants. You can also embroider baby’s name on her blankets and pillow covers. Personalizing baby things really has no other purpose than showing how much you love her such that you will spend time to labor over these little projects. It is actually a way to pass the time while the baby is asleep.

As the baby grows older and she starts wearing real dresses, you will need to go shopping for more adult-like garments like baby gowns, jeans and skirts. The first time you will probably need to shop for baby gowns is when she is due for christening. These gowns are usually made of luxurious fabrics such as satin, lace, organza or silk. They are usually colored white and come in various styles. Traditional ones are long dresses that will cover the legs. Others will be short dresses with matching silky pants.
