Personalizing baby’s clothes can be as simple as stamping some cute prints on plain white cotton shirts. You can also purchase patches and stick them with glue or use simple running stitch to attach the patch to a plain shirt or pair of pants. You can also embroider baby’s name on her blankets and pillow covers. Personalizing baby things really has no other purpose than showing how much you love her such that you will spend time to labor over these little projects. It is actually a way to pass the time while the baby is asleep.

As the baby grows older and she starts wearing real dresses, you will need to go shopping for more adult-like garments like baby gowns, jeans and skirts. The first time you will probably need to shop for baby gowns is when she is due for christening. These gowns are usually made of luxurious fabrics such as satin, lace, organza or silk. They are usually colored white and come in various styles. Traditional ones are long dresses that will cover the legs. Others will be short dresses with matching silky pants.

swaddle blankets

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

When I gave birth to my first baby a year ago, like any new mom I was excited and terrified at the same time. I was excited to hold him and terrified that I might drop him. I had to learn how to change a diaper and swaddle him again. I could not figure out how the hospital nurses swaddled him. It took me forever to learn how to swaddle him but I could never get it right. One day someone sent us swaddle blankets, the ones they were sort of pre-folded, so all I needed to do was to put one end of a Velcro to another and my baby was all swaddled in seconds.

Swaddle blankets are comfortable and easier to assemble. Some blankets are designed in such a way that all you have to do is to insert your baby inside. These swaddle blankets when opened are shaped sort of like an ice cream cone. You simply insert the baby and fold the flaps. Some swaddle blankets are already shaped like a diamond with Velcros and hooks that tell you which end goes with what.

baby onesie

My cousin just had a baby boy two months ago. We held a baby shower for her a few weeks before she gave birth. I gave her a baby onesie in red and blue. Since it was her first baby she was not familiar with baby clothes. I showed her what a onesie was and told her how adorable and popular they were with babies.

A baby onesie is a shirt that is longer at the bottom so that the front and back flap can be buttoned together under the baby’s crotch. The purpose of the baby onesie is to cover a baby’s diaper. The baby’s legs are uncovered and unrestricted so the baby can wiggle his or her legs anytime. The bottom flap also makes it easier to change the baby’s diaper. Baby onesies are one of the most popular baby clothing.

baby clothing

When I gave birth a year ago, I received a lot of gifts. Most of them were baby clothing, the rest were toys. At first, I thought I didn’t need all those clothes, especially since most of them seemed too big. After a few weeks, I realized they weren’t enough. Baby clothing is the most used item after the diaper and the baby bottle. Since, I live in a tropical country, I didn’t realize how often a baby would sweat, and my son needed a change in clothes at least four times a day.

The most common baby clothing gifts are onesies, shirts, and socks. I will suggest however that when buying onesies, get those that are buttoned up all the way. It is so much easier to put a baby onesie if they open up rather than from the head. Another favorite baby clothing are layettes, they are usually long sleeves and cover the baby’s legs and feet as well. I find these quite warm and not so practical when you have to change diapers. Whatever you decide to get, I’m sure the baby’s mommy will appreciate it, keep in mind that the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart.

baby shortall

Baby clothes made of cotton and other natural fabrics are more comfortable, especially in hot weather. Easy fit garments based on patterns from yesteryear are classic because of their practicality. The old-fashioned baby shortall is the outfit of choice in the hot summer months. The one-piece design with buttons provides a distinctive look while making quick changes a breeze. They are available in various designs including an adorable classic denim shortall.

Be wise when buying your child’s clothing. More expensive clothes are not necessarily better. Examine each item carefully; opening packages if possible to make sure that you are getting the right size. Some baby clothes do not come in standard sizes. Check the neck holes if they will fit easily on the baby’s head. And make sure that seams are well finished, without protruding pieces that will irritate the baby’s delicate skin.
